- Describe the role, responsibilities, professional boundaries, and limitations of a Home Support Worker.
- Provide respectful, client-centred support that promotes dignity, privacy, autonomy, independence, and choice.
- Identify and respond appropriately to common safety risks in home and community environments.
- Use effective verbal, non-verbal, and professional communication with clients, families, supervisors, and care-team members.
- Support activities of daily living and personal care using dignity-preserving approaches.
- Support nutrition, hydration, meal preparation, household management, and safe living environments.
- Apply basic principles of mobility, positioning, transfer assistance, fall prevention, and emergency preparedness.
- Describe the HSW role in medication assistance, care-plan adherence, routine health-related support, and reporting changes.
- Recognize common cognitive, mental-health, dementia, brain-injury, developmental-disability, and aging-related support needs.
- Apply basic infection prevention and control practices.
- Recognize indicators of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and unsafe situations and follow organizational reporting/escalation procedures.

- Provide compassionate support to clients and families during palliative and end-of-life care.

Completion and Credential Recommendation
Upon successful completion of all 10 modules, required assessments,Final Exam and the institution’s minimum completion standard, the learner may be awarded the Home Support Worker Certificate, subject to the credential and program-approval status of the issuing institution.
